Some Finger Lakes tasting rooms are thoroughly rustic, right up to the barn rafters; others have softer edges and even a splash of elegance.
Belhurst Winery’s tasting room, part of the Belhurst Castle hospitality complex in Geneva, Ontario County, falls into the latter category.
Attached to an 1880s turreted mansion, the tasting room projects polished restraint, from its golden-wheat and beige color scheme to its staff, decked out in dark trousers, white oxford shirts and subtly patterned vests. The reception extended to visitors is, nevertheless, warm and bubbly.
Visitors chomping at the bit to try the wines with food are in luck. Belhurst has two eateries on the premises: Stonecutters, offering casual fare, and Edgar’s, featuring upscale meals served in a carved-mahogany and mosaic-tiled setting.
