Just a cork’s throw from Cayuga Lake, Sheldrake Point Winery in Ovid,Seneca County, specializes in red, white and dessert wines made from vinifera grapes.
Riesling alone proves to be a lure for many visitors, given that the options range from dry examples with less than 1 percent residual sugar to velvety ice wines made from handpicked frozen-on-the vine grapes.
The restaurant that used to be on site, Simply Red Bistro, has closed.
Tasting room hours: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, April through October. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, November through March. Reservations required for groups of eight or more.
Simply Red Bistro hours: Open April through November. Lunch served 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Monday, April through June, and daily in July and August. Call for fall lunch hours. Dinner served 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and Friday.
