Between the natural-wood façade and the ski-bum weather vane, Hosmer Winery in Ovid, Seneca County, could blend into an alpine setting easily.
But family history makes the winery a product of the Finger Lakes.
Cameron Hosmer and his wife, Maren, began growing grapes at the family’s summer home on Cayuga Lake in the 1970s, in keeping with what Cameron’s
late father had wished.
After supplying area vintners with fruit for 15 years, the couple launched their own winery and set up a tasting room in the garage.
In 1990, the Hosmers converted a barn across the street into the winery’s current tasting room. Visitors will find red, white, sparkling and dessert wines, including Riesling, Pinot Gris, Lemberger and a dry rosé made from Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.
