Sayre Fulkerson launched Fulkerson Wine Cellars in Dundee, Yates County, with his wife, Nancy, in 1989, but his ancestors began tilling Seneca Lake soil in 1805. The winery has experienced several growth spurts since its founding and now pours 25 wines in an expansive tasting room decked out in Oriental rugs, pendant lights and artwork.
Options for white wine fans include Gewurztraminer, Traminette and four styles of Riesling. Pinot Noir, Merlot and the quirky Burntray a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Noiret are among the red selections.
Fulkerson even does its best to spread the joy of enology by selling a broad range of winemaking supplies and grape juice for home-based vintners.
