From the egg-yolk yellow tasting room to the vineyards named Giuseppe and Savina, Tuscan charm envelops Rooster Hill Vineyards in Penn Yan, Yates County. Yet the wine is straight-up Finger Lakes, with standouts ranging from Riesling to Cabernet Franc.
Visitors who want to get a good look at the operation’s estate-grown fruit may join co-owners Amy and Dave Hoffman on one of the vineyard strolls offered three days a week during the summer. They follow the stroll with a crash course on wine appreciation, where visitors can swirl and sniff to their hearts’ content.
The Hoffmans opened the tasting room in 2003,
